Children participate in a series of activities that help them realize words are made up of syllables.  For example, "Can you count the syllables or the word parts in football?"

From the Stuttering Center of Western Pennsylvania.  Stuttering occurs when a child has difficulty producing smooth, flowing speech.  Stuttering appears to be related to many different but related causes, and a child's tendency to be disfluent in a given situation can be triggered by a wide variety of factors.

Have children name each picture.  Then ask them to write O or o next to each picture whose name begins with /o/.  Ask children to help Ollie Octopus find the rock by tracing the path showing pictures that begin with the /o/ sound.
